Trip Around the World that is! Connie made this beautiful quilt for her daughter and her new husband. She likes green and he likes brown.....what a nice combo it made for this quilt! What a beautiful job Connie did! I quilted 'Falling Leaves' which was so perfect for this quilt.

Family Reunion T-shirt Quilt

A customer contacted me about doing a queen sized t-shirt quilt for her in-laws. What lucky in-laws she has :o) She boxed up her t-shirts and mailed them to me. I didn't have enough shirts to make a queen sized quilt, so I added extra quilt blocks to make the quilt the right size. I love the challenge of designing a quilting for someone. This one went through 3 design changes before I felt good about it.

I think it turned out quite nicely AND I just got an email from her saying...."OH MY HECK - Carrie this is Amazing! I love this quilt - It's beautiful! I can't thank you enough for all your hard work. I can not wait for my in-laws to open this up. They will be so surprised and touched. Thank you again for everything. You are the best!!" Couldn't help but smile when I got the email =D Thanks!

It's always fun to open a box to find fun and interesting t-shirts that have special meaning to their owners :o)

Olivia the Pig and Outer Space

Finished these two cute quilts just in time for this young family to move to....Kenya! What an adventure for them!! She just had a baby boy and wanted to get his quilt done. We actually did a swap for this quilt....She made me this adorable monkey that I wanted really, really bad, so she said she was willing to do a swap!
So I quilted the baby blanket for her littlest 'monkey' :o) I quilted "Rings of Saturn" and it just turned out so nice on her space fabric!

She decided to make a quilt for her daughter using Olivia the Pig fabric. Such cute, fun fabric! She chose "Ribbon Dance" as the quilting pattern. Very cute!

Girls Camp Quilt

I finished 2 quilts for our church's Girls Camp which takes place at the end of this month. They are using the color green and Frogs as part of the theme! I found ALL kinds of frog fabric this year...who knew frogs were so popular??!!

I chose plain muslin for the back so everyone can sign the back and then we put all of the girls names in a hat and draw out 2 lucky names :o) Good luck girls!

I used my new Accue Go Cutter to cut out the shapes....LOVE it! I sewed the pieces together and then sewed the longs strips together on the longarm machine and then quilted as I went.

Hope they like it =D

Woohoo Paducah!

I can hardly wait....I get to go to Paducah, KY next week to attend the American Quilter's Society (AQS) 2010 quilt show! I'll be spending time with my niece who just moved there a couple months ago to work as a librarian :o) She's a beautiful knitter herself. In fact, she came here a couple years ago to attend the Sheep and Wool Festival.

Sewing for granddaughters!

I've been gone for awhile, but it's good to be back! I'm ready to get back to my quilting. I have a customer's quilt just calling my name from downstairs....soon...very soon!

Before I left to help my mother with her move, I finished a birthday gift for one of my granddaughters. It took much longer than I had anticipated so it was late :o( But she thought it was just an extension of her birthday when she finally did get it! She calls it her 'special purse'. I'm so glad she thinks so :o)

Here are some pictures....My son overheard my little granddaughter talking to Cinderella on her 'cell phone' about getting ready for the ball :o)

While I was out west, I spent time with my daughters sewing some with them too. I had a grand time. I also made a trip to a fabric wholesaler out there who was having a sale...(did you know you could get 5 bolts of fabric into a suitcase!!) I used some of the fabric I bought and made one little granddaughter a duvet cover, matching pillow and pillow case and curtains. I think it all turned out pretty darn cute if I say so myself! (humble - I know...)

(I didn't make the bedskirt. I just place the fabric there to show what a bedskirt from the raindrop fabric could look like (o: ) Don't you just love the giant ric rac?

I am now selling this cute Blake Riley fabric in my Etsy shop! I will also sell the giant ric rac, but it isn't posted yet. (My husband has our camera in China! So the pictures will have to wait until he gets home!)

A 'Charming' Quilt Guild Challenge

A little embroidery work

I recently bought an embroidery machine and I have been having a little fun on it. Here are a few things I have made.

This is a little string backpack for a friends grandson for Christmas. She bought him some dinosaurs and needed something to put them in. It turned out so cute!
This will be a fun way for someone to break the news of a new baby to someone in the future :o)
I love this apron and monogram!
You are right - this next thing is not embroidery! But I think it is so cute that I had to share...I did some glass etching. It says 'Cookies for Santa'.
I bought the small plate from Walmart and I designed the etching and cut the vinyl (with my vinyl cutting machine) to be a stencil. Very fun and quick :o)

I made these little skirts and embroidered the shirts for my 4 littlest granddaughters. I think they turned out sooo cute :o) I used this pattern from Pink Fig. I will make these again! Very easy.

Mary's Daughter

Mary, a returning customer, brought me her daughter's first quilt! It is the Yellow Brick Road pattern. I just love that pattern. It's quick and easy and it never looks the same! You can purchase the pattern here.

I was only able to get one picture because my camera's battery died! I meandered the quilt top.

Tara and Emily's Quilt for their Mother

This quilt was a while in the making, but I feel it turned out very nicely and they were very pleased :o) (to which one is always happy to hear!) These young women with their mother pulled out clothes and items from their lives to put into this quilt as a mother's day gift to their mom. There was clothing items from their youth, items that reminded them of things they did together as a family and things of their mother's.

Tara came very prepared with everything numbered and a drawn outline of how she wanted it presented on the quilt. Very amazing! I had to change a couple of things because of measurements and one item would have made the quilt too rigid in that area. It was a bit of a challenge to get all of the pieces to fit the way she wanted it, but it worked out just great!

Molly's Quilt

I just finished this memory quilt for Molly. It is for her parents wedding anniversary. Her dad designed the t-shirts each Christmas as gifts for each family member. (Note to self....great idea!)

I am excited to hear how her parents like it. So far - she and her siblings really like it :o)

This is what she said to me in an email after she received got it back: "The quilt came on Monday and absolutely took my breath away! I can't explain how perfect it is. I had no idea how it would turn out, but the way you have done it is exactly how I would have chosen it. You are so talented. I've been calling my brother and sisters over to see it and they all have said "Wow!" when I open it up. Then they ask how you knew the exact colors to use. :)" I'm sorry, I shouldn't probably post that, but it I just couldn't help but smile when she told me that. I can't help but be a little nervous when I give a customer back their shirts in a quilt that I have designed.

Anyway - I am so excited for her to give it to her parents. Thank you Molly for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the celebration!

This blog has been used for and about my family. I now have a new blog for my family so be sure to bookmark it or better yet, become a follower! This blog will now be devoted to my quilting quests. My little business is picking up and I would like to show case those quilts that I have the privilege to work on and the great customers that I get to work with :o)

I just finished a Memorial Quilt for Traci in Florida. This is a quilt in memory of her mother. It was quite interesting to work with the different fabrics and colors that were sent to me.

Here is the back of the quilt. I wanted her to see the fabrics she sent in larger pieces. I loved pieced backs also.

A Time to Mourn

I hadn't realized that it had been so long it had been since I had made an entry. I have been putting off this entry. It's difficult to put into words the sadness that I feel.

My dad passed away. He had been battling pancreatic cancer for 15 months. I am happy that he was with us for as long as he was, but it is bittersweet to see him go. I am glad that he is no longer in pain, but am sad to not have him around anymore. Not being able to call or visit him. My dad was to our family as the polar star is to sailors. It never changes it's place; it's immovable and constant. That was my dad.

He was constant, steadfast, immovable and always abounding in good works.

*Constant in his love for his family. Always had a listening ear, offering love and affection whether I was right or wrong. Always there with a hug.

*Steadfast in his dedication to God, church, & family. We always knew he would be there for us.

*Immovable in his morals and principles. A man of integrity.

*Always doing good. Whether it was mowing a lawn for the widowed, helping someone with a car problem, writing the family missionaries weekly, never speaking ill of anyone, supporting his family in their accomplishments, rejoicing in the good times or sorrowing in the hard times, everyone knew that they could call Odell/daddy/grandpa and that he would be there for them no matter what.

I find great comfort in knowing that my dad is in a better place with family and friends. We believe that families are forever. I know that I will see him again and that our separation is temporary. I hope and pray that I can be half the good, kind person that he is. He left quite the legacy.

I will miss you Daddy.

Hurts were here!

George and Ginny Hurt were here this weekend. They spent Thursday night with us which was fun. We got to catch up with each other. We had dinner with them and Gadberrys and Sheppards at Habib's. Love that place....such yummy food. I got to quilt a quilt top for her. She made it for her grandson who turned 8 and was baptized today. (their reason to visit Maryland!)

I Love Scraps!

I love scraps and scrappy quilts! Bonnie Hunter came and spoke to our quilt guild last year and I really enjoyed her lecture and trunk show of quilts. This is one of her quilts in progress... I started doing the things she suggested and then bought her book 'Scraps & Shirttails'. I wanted to include one of her links to some information that I didn't want to loose and would be able to find quickly.

Projects I have finished

Hi Everyone,

I have finished a few projects so I thought I would share. This is a quilt that was a consignment from a lady that liked my display quilt at the Liberty High Craft show. I finally finished it! I machine quilted this quilt for someone else.
This is my second quilt from her! woohoo! Hopefully I will get more quilts from her in the future. I finished these little scrap bags last night. I will use them next to my sewing machine and cutting table for the thread scraps, etc. I thought they turned out cute.

This is my next project...a sample t-shirt quilt for Jomax. I will be teaching this class in March! I will show you the results.

The week before Christmas...

I have had a busy couple of weeks. I finished my first customer's quilt and a friend, Deon Tait, finished her daughter's quilt, and I did baking with Tricia and a new sister in the ward, Mary Halsey. This picture shows my portion! So you can imagine how many cookies we actually made!
We also went to my work party at Turf Valley, went to a Christmas party at Seaman's in the ward where we had a 'White Elephant' gift exchange. I got "Mr. Bill" (oooohhhh noooo!) and Gordon got the humongous TV remote! (You will be seeing more of Mr. Bill in our future travels!) We had a good time. Last night we had dinner with other friends, Taits, Stephens, and Bettridges of Hampstead ward. The food was yummy and we played Hit or Miss. It was a nice evening.

Today was Sunday and we had fun in Nursery as always :o) We did sticker Nativity sets and gave them reindeer candy canes that I made plus we had taken their pictures earlier and made their parents ornaments using their pictures. It was a fun day!

It's me! I won the Judges Choice award for the quilt challenge Tuesday night at my local quilt guild, Four County Quilt Guild! woohoo!! The challenge was to make something from something that inspired us. This is what I chose.....

I won a $20 gift card to a local quilt shop! Yippee!!! I've never won anything for any of my quilts. Of course it might help to actually enter something into a contest!

Tomorrow, I actually have my first customer quilt to quilt. Actually....I have quilted for Ginny Hurt and my Aunt Janet. But this is a quilt that a total stranger is entrusting to me.....scary! I will post pictures when I am done.

Here is another little quilt I have recently just finished. It is a quilt-as-you-go type. so when you are done sewing it, it is quilted also!

Oh....oh....I also got my first consignment to make a quilt for someone! She wants me to make her this quilt -

I had it as a display at my craft show and a couple of ladies asked about buying it and one came back asking me to make her one just like it :o)

I haven't put up any Christmas decorations yet...too busy. But I did manage to get up my snowman quilt and needle punched snowman. So let it snow!

Fall and nursery

I just love the fall season. I love spring, but there is something about fall. I love the colors of fall, the coolness, the crispness, the fresh apples and applesauce donuts (when I can find them!). I love to decorate for fall. So in that spirit, I will share a couple of things that means it's fall at the Weatherbee home....(of course it's gotta mean quilts!) This first quilt I made because I love the colors of the fall leaves. So it is my renedition of the fall leaves! I just love the fun Halloween fabrics so I made this one in honor of the fun side of Halloween.

Oh, Gordon grew these gorgeous pumpkins. They greet you at the door :o)They are the prettiest colors. They are flat on one side, so they don't stand up :o) Fun, Fun!

I went into Nursery today and took a few pictures of Gordon and his nursery kids. I thought you might enjoy a couple of them! The kids think Gordon is part jungle gym! They love him and he loves them. Whenever he leaves the room, I've been told that the room goes quiet as they watch him leave and they wait until he returns :o) One little girl calls him 'Brudduh Wedderbee'. When they go to visit family in Ohio and they take her to that nursery, she just stands at the door and asks "Where's Brudduh Wedderbee?" Of course he's not there, so she won't go in :o)

The Harvest

It's that time of year....the harvest! The garden did very well this year. We've had a ton of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, bumper crop of summer squash and zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, cantelope, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, pumpkins (picture at a later time!), corn, popcorn, and acorn squash. the deer got the beans. All in all, it was a pretty good year, considering that it didn't rain much this summer.

Here is our latest batch of salsa. When you come, you will get to try our yummy salsa and chips!

Check out this raspberry pie! It is a new recipe I tried...can you tell that we like it :o) Wish you were all here to enjoy it with us.

We also got 300 pounds of honey! Wowzer!! That is a LOT of little honey bears running around here! Gordon always has the biggest grin as he is putting the honey in the containers. He just grins and says 'I earned this honey with all of the stings I got!' They were busy little bees...that includes my busy little bee, Gordon! Let the word out that Gordon is selling his local Maryland honey....and let me just say....it is beyond yummy!!!

I have been a busy bee myself :o) I have been working on a couple of quilts. Here is my first t-shirt quilt. I will be making another t-shirt quilt soon. They will serve as my samples as I try to promote my quilting business...both machine quilting and making memory t-shirt quilts for people. Sooooooo....If you know anyone looking for someone to quilt their quilts or have a bunch of t-shirts they don't wear but want to keep, let them know I will make them a scrapbook quilt full of their memories! (for a price of course ;o)

Three engineers are riding in a car: an electrical engineer, a chemical engineer, and a Microsoft engineer. Suddenly the car stalls and stops by the side of the road. The three engineers look at each other with bewilderment, wondering what could be wrong.

The electrical engineer, not knowing much about mechanics, suggests: "Let's strip down the electronics of the car and try to trace where a fault might have occurred."

The chemical engineer, not knowing much about electronics, suggests: "Maybe the fuel has become emulsified and is causing a blockage somewhere in the system."

The Microsoft engineer suggests: "Why don't we close all the windows, get out, get back in, open the windows again, and maybe it'll work!?"
